How do you create a psychologically safe environment?

Cascade Connection news - creating a safe environment with psychological safety

There is a lot of talk in the coaching world about the concept of Psychological Safety. Especially regarding its powerful impact on generating a positive workplace culture.

We are thrilled to have worked with experts to create a new Cascade worksheet combining Strengths with Psychological Safety. This resource will help you and your clients discover what you need to feel safe, and how to create and nurture that setting for others.

The new worksheet is the main feature of this newsletter, we also cover:

Combining Strengths with Psychological Safety

Psychological Safety creating a safe environment

Lots of coaches are increasingly aware of the importance of Psychological Safety. Research shows it’s the number 1 factor influencing team performance and success. Where it exists, individuals feel welcome, able to speak up, give feedback, experiment and learn. Which results in an innovative and productive team. Something we all want to help create.

Therefore, we’ve been delighted to work with a team of CliftonStrengths® coaches, all certified in Psychological Safety, to create a new Strengths Advantage worksheet. It’s based on LeaderFactor’s 4 Stages of Psychological Safety and has their seal of approval.

Find out more about this new resource in our blog post. We also share some helpful examples of how to use the worksheet. It’ll help you – and your clients – understand how different Strengths contribute to creating a safe environment. Plus hear from the four coaches who helped us design it.

Psychological Safety is a belief that one will not be punished or humiliated for speaking up with ideas, questions, concerns or mistakes.”

Dig deeper with other coaches

There’s now a dedicated Facebook group for Strengths Coaches using Psychological Safety. It was set up by the coaches involved in designing our new worksheet. So if this is an area you’re working on, or wish to explore further, you can request to join the group.

Add a Personal Touch to your Cascade Reports

Cascade Connection news - Discover how to make your coaching reports more personal

The new release of Cascade has a great way to make your coaching reports even more personal for your clients.

Learn how to easily tailor your reports below – and check out the other new features in the latest version:

How to make your coaching reports special

One of the great new features in the latest version of Cascade is super simple – but very powerful. We’ve added a new feature that allows you to insert your own text at the top of the individual reports. Enabling you to make your coaching reports better fit the personal situation for each client.

We call it a “Report Topping”. You can choose whether to use the same phrase for everyone, or create something unique for each person.

Why have we done this?

It came about following a suggestion from Deon Rademeyer. He was looking for new ways to make the Cascade reports more relevant for his clients. Working with the military, he specifically wanted to detail their rank, such as Sargent Major or Captain.

You can now add a person’s job role, position or military rank – or any other text – to make the report special for the person. Some coaches have suggested adding the name of the team or a brief tip on how to use the report. The choice is yours.

New Strengths Advantage worksheets

Another significant development in the Cascade update is the addition of three new Strengths Advantage worksheets. These resources help clients apply their strengths in a range of scenarios and we are excited by the increased depth and breadth of options the new worksheets give you.

Combining Strengths with Psychological Safety

Psychological Safety Strengths Advantage in Cascade

Several coaches are currently exploring the concept of Psychological Safety when working with teams. It’s a big new area of focus generally in the coaching, management and HR world.

LeaderFactor™ have set out the 4 Stages of Psychological Safety and offer certification in their model. There is a strong correlation how Strengths can enhance the Psychological Safety for individuals and teams.

We are delighted to work with a group of CliftonStrengths® coaches and LeaderFactor™ to produce a new worksheet in Cascade. This brings Strengths and Psychological Safety together in a single focus. It can help teams become more welcoming and innovative in their approach, driving forward performance.

Thank you to coaches Alicia Santamaria, Tracy Philips, Marjan Mahoutchian and Michelle Horgan for your enthusiasm, input and guidance on creating the new worksheet.

STOP PRESS: Watch out for a big feature on Strengths and Psychological Safety in the next issue of Cascade Connection!

Focusing on Career Development

You’ll also find two more new worksheets in the latest version of Cascade. These are both designed to help with Career Development and in particular, clients moving to a new role. Thank you to Murray Guest, who inspired their development, and to Jennifer Vancil for her assistance.

Create PDFs for your labels and lanyards

Cascade PDF strengthsfinder reports team email zip

We’ve added a couple of new buttons to make it easy for you to create PDF files of labels and lanyards. Using this, you can now quickly make a set of PDFs ready for printing or to send directly to your customer.

It’s also now possible to create a PDF for a single page of labels, or run off all the PDFs for several pages. We hope this timesaver will make it much easier to prepare labels or lanyards for your in-person workshops.

Why did we do this? Because you asked us to! We take careful note of any feedback in our Cascade Strengths Community on Facebook and discovered recently that several coaches like to create a PDF of their labels instead of printing them directly from Cascade. We therefore decided to make it super easy for you to do this. Thank you to Dawn Potter Sander for the original Facebook post that started off the conversation!
